TEENS AND WORK

In the past, teenagers in America could find work easily. But the summer of 2019 was different. It was harder for them to find jobs. Some teenagers found a solution to the problem. They started their own businesses. Many of these teens got help from a company on the internet called "Work for Teens." This company gives teenagers free information about how to start a business. Business experts volunteer to give their advice on this website. Teens can contact the company and get as much advice as they need.(lines 1–11)
Charlie Price was 16 years old when "Work for Teens" helped him start his T-shirt business. Charlie painted pictures on T-shirts and sold them from his home to people in his neighborhood. "'Work for Teens' gave me great advice," he said, "and while working I learned to make all the decisions by myself." That summer, he earned more than a thousand dollars! Another teenager who had her own business was Ann Miller. At the age of 18, she organized birthday parties for young children. Ann's business was so successful that she asked two friends to help her.(lines 12–17)
Having a business has many advantages for teenagers. "Having a business made me more responsible," said Charlie Price. Ann also told us why the work experience was important for her. "It helped me prepare for the future," she said. And finally, some teenagers who had their own businesses said that they made a lot of money.(lines 18–21)
