GUS THE PENGUIN GOES HOME

Last summer, people on a beach in Australia had a big surprise. A penguin came out of the sea and walked along the beach. This penguin usually lives in Antarctica, which is the coldest place in the world. Antarctica is thousands of kilometers away from Australia. This penguin was very far from home!(lines 1–6)
The penguin was tired and thin. The people on the beach wanted to help him. So they called Carol Biddulph. Carol knows a lot about penguins. She went to the beach and took the penguin to her home. Then she gave him the name Gus.(lines 7–11)
Carol looked after Gus carefully. In her home, she put him in a very cold room. Then she put a mirror in the room because she knew that penguins like mirrors. Gus looked in the mirror for hours every day.(lines 12–14)
Carol fed Gus lots of fish. After three weeks, he was much stronger. He did not need Carol to look after him anymore. So Carol went on a boat with Gus. The boat took them close to Antarctica. Then Gus jumped off the boat and swam home.(lines 15–17)
