REAL GRASS OR PLASTIC GRASS*
Botley is a small town near New York, USA. Only 2,000 people live there. Botley has a school, a supermarket and a restaurant. But it does not have a park where families can have picnics and where children can play. So the people in Botley are building a park in their town.(lines 1–4)
Jim Scott lives in Botley and loves to work in gardens. He is helping to make the new park. Jim already put flowers and plants in the park. Now he wants to put grass there. But there are two types of grass, and Jim must decide which type of grass to use.(lines 5–7)
One type of grass is real grass. "Real grass has some problems," explains Jim. "It needs a lot of water, and someone must cut it every week." The other type of grass is plastic grass. Of course, plastic grass never needs any water.(lines 8–10)
But plastic grass also has a problem. It is not soft like real grass. When children fall on it, they can get hurt*. "I don't want children to get hurt," says Jim. "So I want to put real grass in our park."(lines 11–13)
