A PET BEAR

Frank and Emily Miller, who live in Smallville, Canada, had an unusual visitor last month. They found a brown baby bear in their garden. The Miller family believed the baby bear was lost and was looking for a home. They decided to keep the bear as a pet. They named him Brownie and built a home for him in their garden.(lines 1–4)
However, the neighbors became very upset. They say it is not good for the bear and dangerous for people. They think that the Miller family must send Brownie to a zoo because bears are dangerous. Experts on animal behavior agree. Dr. Ursula Bruin, an expert on animal behavior, explains, "Today Brownie is about three months old. He is cute and harmless. However, bears become aggressive and dangerous when they grow up. I know of other pet bears that hurt and killed their owners when they grew up," she adds.(lines 5–13)
Brownie has become very famous in Canada. There are many stories about him in the newspapers. People are waiting to hear what will happen to Brownie.(lines 14–16)
