SKILLS FOR LIFE

Finally! You want to begin your life as an independent adult. But are you really ready? Studies show that most high schools do not prepare pupils for the real world. They should focus more on the important skills people need later in life, in addition to the regular subjects that schools teach.(lines 1–5)
One important skill to learn is time management. Even young pupils should know how to organize their time. Then they can plan their time to help at home, do homework and still have time for fun with friends.(lines 6–9)
Managing money is another important skill. Independent young adults need to understand how much money they have and how much they can spend. For example, do they have enough money to spend at the supermarket or on fun activities? Do they need to find a new job where they can earn more money? Schools teach mathematics and sciences but they don't teach ways to solve everyday money problems.(lines 10–14)
Some people are lucky enough to learn these skills from their parents. But the only way to make sure that everyone learns them is by teaching them at school, in addition to the other subjects.(lines 15–16)
